We meet our friends in public spaces, like squares and parks, to chat with them, but nowadays we are also using social networks and messaging apps for the same purpose. Online, we often behave the same way as offline when socialising with our friends. However, our communications online can be accessed not only by our friends, but also by many others.

There are vasts amounts of personal information which is used and re-used by private and public sectors for different purposes, sometimes illegally. Therefore we should try to reduce our own risks and to not feed these “data hungry” mechanisms. Anything you post online now (or that you posted years ago!) could be later tracked back to you, by anyone who happens to get access to it. An old online communications that you thought was private could be used in the future to discriminate against you.
